Turn Around for Vets is a program of San Diego Woodturners, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Turn Around for Vets

Turn Around for Vets is a program designed to provide basic woodturning skills that will have therapeutic value to disabled veterans. The program provides the instruction, materials, and safety equipment.

Turn Around for Vets is a part of the San Diego Woodturners. (SDWT) ongoing program of mentoring people who are interested in learning the use of the lathe, tools, and techniques. Our members include professional and amateur craftsmen, physical therapists, psychologists, medical doctors, and others, including many vererans who will give support to these heroes. All supplies and equipment are provided by SDWT at no cost to the veterans, and we attempt to adapt programs and equipment to serve as many as possible.

Woodturning is the shaping of a piece of spinning wood that is attached to a lathe. A sharp tool is applied to the spinning wood to create the desired shape and form. Commonly turned items are bowls, platters, art vases, furniture parts, and baseball bats.
