The San Diego Woodturners (SDWT), founded in 1987, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with more than 130 members. Skill levels range from novice to expert. San Diego Woodturners is a member of the American Association of Woodturners.
Our group is dedicated to providing local members with ongoing education regarding techniques, equipment, safety, and other items of interest. Meetings are held monthly in the Nottingham Center for the Arts, San Marcos, California, with programs presented by experts both local and world renown. At each meeting, members are invited to bring recent work to share with and to be appreciated by the club. A raffle at each meeting provides an opportunity to win tools or turning supplies.
Throughout the year, club members present demonstrations at the county fair and other venues at which items made by club members are sold. The proceeds go to charity. For example, approximately $8,000 are donated to Toys for Tots each year.
Turn Around for Vets is a program of SDWT because SDWT members recognize the therapeutic and self-esteem value of woodturning and we wish to share our skills. Many SDWT members are veterans, and all members value what veterans have contributed to our country and to us.
